Born in Dakar Senegal in 1952 Assane N' Doye is one of the most gifted artists of his generation. From 1969 to 1972 he studied in Dakar at the National Art institute where his paintings were exhibited at the galandou Diouf Street Gallery and were bought by art dealers and collectors from many different countries.

1973 brought Assane to France as he was admitted to the Aubusson National School to learn the techniques of mural tapestry; he began making a living designing textiles, which were commissioned by the most prominent names in French Haute Couture such as Cardin, Dior, and Carven.

His work as a commercial fashion designer did not prevent his continuing experiments with formal art through which he expressed his feeling of the African reality, which had sustained his personal life and culture.

During the next fifteen years He participated in hundreds of exhibits and his work attracted the attention of many collectors. Specific pieces have been acquired by the Muse D' Angouleme (1983) the Minister of Culture in Paris (1984) and the mayor of Paris (1984). Assane has created many posters for the African cinema, the Center Cultural Pompidou, and for Amnesty International.

His work evokes Africa and reacts to the fundamental elements of life. It has been observed that it includes the constant presence of the woman "the woman plays an important role in my paintings she represents the metaphor of creation and symbolizes security, protection, joys of infancy, and the images of fecundity and duration." it is the curve that I try to transmit the strength, the courage, the grace and the softness that I believe are the components of the African soul."

He himself is very sensitive to all forms of beauty that of the old factory (haunted castle of industrial modernity), of ancestral Africa and traditional and Islamic customs. His upbringing by the ocean has contributed to the aerial grace and the spatial aspect of his work.

During the 1990-91 academic year Assane N' Doye came to America as a visiting artist at U.C.L.A through the highly distinguished Full bright Scholars Program. For the first time American collectors and art lovers were able to see original paintings, drawings, and serigraphs by this internationally acclaimed artist in a series of lectures and exhibitions.

He currently lives and paints in Los Angeles where he is on top of his Art.
