Javier Tunon

Javier grew up in the Basque Country of Northern Spain. By 7 ,he started classes with a Basque painter, learning basic technique in charcoals, oil paints, and etchings in metal. Javi has always been a highly emotional painter, leaving a spectrum of feelings rooted in the color and texture of each piece. His archtypal figures are never overwraught, reflecting deep character and a sense of mythology. Images of gods, aliens, and tribal men, all surreal in nature with an urban edge, are drawn out from his subconscious. His discipline in etching and stone carving is sometimes predicated by a thick veil of hashish smoke. Javi exercises a subtle methodology and a facination of natural principles. The result is meditative.

After falling in love with an American girl and moving to Los Angeles, he worked in antique restoration and decorative art. Javi now paints sets for motion picture film, which allows the opportunity to experiment with new materials and techniques. Two years ago, Javi moved back to Spain to showcase his work. He continues to elicit the personal and the intimate in his art, creating an organic, angular, and ceaseless flow.
