Mike Spitaletto

Michael John Spitaletto did not seriously consider the world of art until he attended college. It was during that time that he began to scrutinize the world around him and ponder what was occurring within himself. Some things he loved, some things he hated, but most importantly he felt a desire to express himself. His work was primarily focused on sculpture and photography. Least of his passions was painting. Extra income during this time was earned as a janitor in charge of maintaining the studios he enjoyed so much.

However, upon graduating from Flagler College with a Bachelors degree in fine art and a minor in art history he decided to move to Los Angeles on a whim, leaving behind many of his sculptures, drawings, photographs, and paintings.

The dreams of making a living while producing art were quickly squelched by the reality of living. He longed for the days in the sculpture studios, the nights in the darkroom, the feeling of losing himself in his work.

He decided that the easiest and most readily available medium of art in which to express himself was in painting. Using a broken studio easel given to him by his teacher, he began to paint. Lacking the fellowship and encouragement of other artists and receiving negative feedback caused him to all but quit painting for six years.

Six stagnant years have passed and the easel has been repaired. New friendships have been formed around a new hope, along with a renewed passion for the arts. These are some of his works.
